Difficult to project the weather this time of the year (Autumn). Two days ago I was down with my granddaughter helping her with her weekly food shop. It was warm and dry, though there were plenty of clouds in the sky. Yesterday, the wind was close to gale force meaning I had to bring most of my cat food dishes inside, after I had chased them down on the lawn below the deck. Never did find the lid of my cat food container, just hope it doesn’t get mulched up in the lawnmower without me finding it first.
Anyway, the wind lasted till this morning and then the heavens opened with the wind changing direction and lashing against the back ranchsliders. Actually the wind was so fierce yesterday, it moved one of the easy chairs round to the side, which thankfully I noticed BEFORE it was completely round there, or it would have been able to blow it right off the deck. Boy :-(.
Anyway, while I was out yesterday morning I bought my next lot of seedlings, Broad beans and Peas. The advice online says to plant my Runner beans next month, so will keep an eye out for those seedlings in the shops.
The weather is set to improve tomorrow, fingers crossed, so if it does,, I will be able to whip out the summer remains and, with mixing the compost and potting soil I bought yesterday, I will be able to replenish my veggie boxes ready for my new plants. Also, I should be able to plant the brassica selection I bought last time into one of the boxes to give me a start on my Cauliflower etc.
Now that I have my replacement car, I am building on the cash from the sale of my MR2, to buy a large 1200×1200 raised bed for the back garden so that I won’t be as limited for space as I am at the moment. Although, having visited my daughter yesterday and seen her large raised veggie beds, perhaps I’ll buy a long narrow box instead, and leave a space alongside. That way, I can put the tunnel house for my Hydroponics there that I plan to have beside the big bed. I must admit that I am working to raise optimism at the moment with the grey overcast cloud cover and the rain promising again.
Still, I don’t actually have to go anywhere before the library this afternoon to pick up the books I ordered at the weekend. The rain is due to clear away by midmorning and I really hope it does. Much better to take my walk in the dry.
Nothing is static is it??
Wednesday last, I went down to Auckland to pick up my new Ipad replacement of the one that was damaged in my earlier car accident (cracked screen). Just wonderful to know I can start taking photos again. THEN!! on arriving home I saw a side table in the entry with an artificial flower display and tile on stand. Huh, up to the living room to see that my fairy goddaughter had been while I was out and rearranged the room to the ideas we had discussed last week. It looks fantastic! My easy chairs are now facing the back ranchslider and deck and the dining room table and chairs are now at the front of the house, overlooking the main road outside.
I am so blessed.
Have decided to plant my Autumn/Winter raised beds tomorrow and am really looking forward to that.
Well! The plans of mice and men, or women, go agley, so they say. Today is rain, rain, rain. So heavy that I even took the car to the next door shops for my Saturday morning coffee treat. Then off to buy more coffee, only to get a text from my daughter, am I at home? SO. a lovely visit from her, my granddaughter and granddaughter’s friend. Now there will be no gardening today, which is fine, tomorrow will work too. except, no photos today.
Just heard a tinkle from my phone, which reminds me that I am going to attempt to post instagram items from my garden. Not being very technically minded, I am hoping that I can actually accomplish this. 🙂 However, I still ask that you let me know what you think. even without photos. On hilary@affordablehydrogreens.com, or gosportgal@gmail.com, and be assured that I will answer your comments.
